Hi all.

On March 12th we had a meeting on SCZ policies where all attendees could discuss the direction the SURF team was looking at regarding policies. It was nice to see data stewards, legal colleagues, research support staff, privacy officers etc join the discussion; input from institutions and SP’s is super valuable and we are grateful for everyone that attended (and also the people that would have loved to come).

We’ve documented the outcome and gave all attendees some time to check whether they think the document captures what was discussed.

We now would like everyone interested, and that might not have been able to attend the discussion, to read our current insights in how we see the role of policies research collaborations have to deal with.

TL;DR<https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=tl%3Bdr>: even without a SCZ-like solutions, research collaborations already have to take care of policy related documents. Think of MoU’s/consortium agreements, data processing agreements, acceptable use policies etc. SCZ is not intended to solve all of that (although over time, the SCZ team would love to see how we can help on those matters). But initially, SCZ is just a tool that eases managing access compared to the current situation. It’s a tool for research collaborations. From a GDPR perspective, we see research collaborations as data controllers; SCZ is a data processor for research collaborations.

Please find (a little) more text in the document at https://surfdrive.surf.nl/files/index.php/s/YrIefGcqRCaA2xj . For now, it’s in Dutch only, as our current focus is on Dutch led research collaborations.

We would love:

  * People from institutions to read this and discuss this within their institution with IT, privacy officers, security officers etc
  * People from service providers read this and share it internally with relevant colleagues

Please let us know asap whether you have any questions or concerns. We’re happy to set up a call or schedule meeting if that seems handy.

With kindest regards, met vriendelijke groet,

Raoul Teeuwen
